Dr. Jeffrey W. Tweedale

Brief CV

Dr Jeffrey W. Tweedale is a Scientific Engineering Officer who works at the Mission Systems Integration Branch of Air Operations Division within the System Sciences Laboratory in the Defence Science and Technology Organisation of Australia. He has been working for Defence for over 30 years and with DSTO over the past decade in automation and human in the loop simulation. He is also an active adjunct staff member of the Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems (KES) Centre at the University of South Australia and has officially held this role since 2004. He earned a PhD in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of South Australia, an MBA in Business for Adelaide University, B. Comp (Hons) degree in Computer Science from Monash University, a B.IT in Information Systems from Charles Sturt University and a B.Ed in TAFE from Melbourne University. His recent research interests include: Multi-Agent Systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, System Automation, Human-Computer Trust, Electronic Engineering, Computer-Based Learning and Education. His current research involves Self Organising Micro Mission Systems (SOUMS) using autonomous airborne platforms using distributed sensor networks. During his time in Defence he has authored a book and contributed to over 130 chapters, reports, journal articles and conference papers. He has already supervised over 20 research students from the University of South Australia, the Central Queensland University, the Ritsumeikan University and the Malaysia University of Science and Technology. During his time a TAFE he also instructed Army Apprentices in Electronics Engineering and Communications. Meanwhile he continues to instruct on Knowledge-based Engineering and Digital Communication at the University of South Australia. He continues to adopt a mentoring role for colleagues and acquaintances and more recently was acknowledged by his peers by being elevated as a senior member of the IEEE association. Being an acknowledged researcher, Jeff has been included on numerous editorial panels and has been requested to instigate, then chair, many invited sessions at conferences in his field.

In 2007 he received a ‘DSTO ONE’ achievement award for championing the Net Warrior Network. More recently he was awarded the AOD ‘Divisional Award for Best Research’ in 2012.
