How to make gourmet coffee like a pro at home (easier and cheaper)
video transcript
A: Hi guys, I am a massive coffee addict, now I have to drink at least a cup of coffee every day. I did not have this habit before, I guess when you are surrounded by all kinds of coffee shops just on campus, like this, this, this and this. Then it is not too hard to cultivate a coffee drinking habit. What about you? Actually, but because Covid-19 hit Australia a few months ago, the coffee shops around Adelaide had to be shut for almost three months. So as a new coffee addict, I started to try to make coffee at home. But if I just simply pour coffee and milk together that would not be enough to ease my coffee addiction. Because when we drink coffee, we need to get some sort of relaxing feeling and enjoyment out of it. So, I started to try to recreate the coffee I get from the coffee shop at home. After a lit bit research by myself, I found out that it is actually not so hard to make a cup of decent coffee at home and at a lot cheaper price. So here I want to share my experience with you guys, of course, I believe there are some of you must be much better than me in terms of coffee making skills, but you can still stay to watch because it is a good way to practice English together anyway.
So, first of all, what do we need to prepare?
A coffee mug, a milk frother for 2.80 AUD here very cheap. A jar of NESCAFE, you can get a better one than this to create a richer taste expresso. a measuring cup I also bought from a cheap Japanese chain store here called Daiso, basically, 2.80 for every item in the shop. And a bottle of whole milk, remember if you want to create a more creamy taste coffee, whole milk is better than skim milk. Because whole milk contains all the natural cream that comes with the milk. Finally, A stove or a microwave to heat up the milk.
Step 1
Boil the kettle and get ready to soak the instant coffee
Step 2
Add the right amount of instant coffee according to your own taste. I am used to adding about XXX grams of instant coffee into my measuring cup. Then pour the hot water in and stir it nicely. I am used to just have 100 ml pure instant coffee mixture.
Step 3
Pour the pure instant coffee into your coffee mug, and give your measuring cup a good rinse, because we are going to add some whole milk to the measuring cup. Remember that the milk you add to the pure instant coffee liquid is about twice as much as your instant coffee liquid. So for my case, I should add 200 ml of whole milk.
Step 3
Put the milk into the microwave for 30 seconds, because heated up milk can make thicker milk froth and it tastes better.
Step 4
Using the milk frother to make milk froth. Start from the middle, do not get too close to the surface, because we don’t want to create too many bubbles. keep an up and down motion like this. Give it about 30 seconds. What we need at the end is like this. The texture of the milk should be like melted ice cream, silky and smooth.
Step 5
Pour the milk into your coffee mug. If you are totally new to coffee making, just pour it at the same speed like this, but if you want to have a lit bit fun, or even try to do latte art, then you should break your pouring milk process into two stages, the first stage hold your milk jar higher let the milk pour directly into your coffee and make a brown canvas. Then stop, hold your milk jar closer, start to create your pattern on the surface by using your milk froth like this. Latte art needs a lot of practice, but don’t worry, whether you can create a pattern on the top or not by following what I just did you can make a decent coffee that tastes very close to what you get from the coffee shop…. Enjoy…
